Hey guys,
Yesterday we had speech finals (I didn't get into the finals but still) today I am here to show you my speech about Graffiti. I will give you a video and what I wrote, so like 2 in 1. I am telling if Graffiti should or shouldn't be illegal. My opinion is shouldn't but many people have different opinions.

Graffiti, some people say “Yay”, others “Nay.” Graffiti is one of the many types of art. This art form that we see mostly outside and in crowded areas like a city is controversial. Even though some people don’t like graffiti, it can still make them go “Wow!” Although there are graffiti artists who can make some Masterpieces, graffiti can be also look like a mess if it is just tagging.  This type of graffiti is bad, especially on private property. 

What is graffiti? Well, Graffiti is a type of art, created by painting or writing on walls, doors and skateparks among other places. Most of the time, what people call graffiti is just tagging. But graffiti is an amazing art style. In Chch we have a lot of damaged buildings from the earthquakes. Artists had the great idea put graffiti art all around Garden City to bring it back to life. You like the amazing art all around town? You think that Chch should look better, right? Right.

Should graffiti be illegal?

Definitely not! Graffiti is something that brings Christchurch together. If Christchurch didn’t have the name Garden City. I am sure they would’ve named it “Art City” or something similar. Graffiti should be in crowded places and/or skateparks as it shows the artists work and his/her interests. Graffiti shouldn't be created on people’s private property as it is vandalising the person’s home. It should be done only with owner’s consent. Graffiti should be banned in certain areas. I would say there should be a MASSIVE mural in Christchurch showing the work of a variety of graffiti artists. 

Types of graffiti. There are lots and lots of types of graffiti. These include

Tag - Tag is a simple and easy. When the artist writes their nickname or just name.

Throwup -  Throw Up is like a complicated tag, written in bubbly letters.

Blockbuster - Blockbuster is Blocky letters and very big.

Heaven - Heaven is in hard to reach places, like on the side of a building.

Stencil - pretty self-explanatory it’s using a stencil

Piece - Short for Masterpiece it is a big painting that gets respect from other artists.

In conclusion I see Graffiti is good and should not be banned. As I have been living in Chch for all my life and I have seen some amazing artwork made by Graffiti and you guys might of seen some as well. So I hope Graffiti is not illegal because it is an amazing art and should be shown in a museum. I hope graffiti can last for many years to come.

I hope that people of any age can enjoy and respect this amazing art.
